i read this off of my old blog and thought it was important to post here since i am going through a quarter life crisis.
Don’t think you’re on the right road just because it’s a well-beaten path. ~Author Unknown
I came across this quote and I love it because of it’s simple truth. I think it is very easy for us as young adults to simply follow the path that people would like us to. I guess they call this conventional.
As happy as I am sure this would make our families, (nothing new=no risk=no loss) it is a sad thing to see people simply conforming to “keep the waters calm” or to make things more simple. New things and ideas come from new experiences… this is what creates variety in life.
When I look at people who are unhappy in their middle-aged lives, I wonder if they simply “followed the beaten path”, I wonder if they would feel more complete if they had indulged in some of their ideas or dreams. It is easy to conform when everyone is asking you to be a certain way, but “off the beaten path” is not so bad, there is a type of freedom in actually exploring what you want to explore. I just know how easy it is to forget what you want to explore when other people are always telling you what they think you should be doing and how they think you should be living. So when we are all trying to figure out our lives and where we fit into this world, I encourage you to embrace your dreams and stay true to yourself, even if that means a little adversity every once in a while. Explore what you want to explore, develop your character, build your identity and dream… and travel… and go!!!!!!!! don’t stay, explore!!! There is no particular “right path”, the right path is the one you follow when you are true to yourself.
I am super excited about this guy Matt, first of all, he was just recently invited to the Ted Conferences to talk about his life and second of all he is famous for doing a little dancing jig.
He thought he had done all he wanted to do in life (play a lot of video games) and then it dawned on him that he wanted to travel, Stride gum found his dancing/traveling video and it is history from there. Take a look at all of the places he has danced his jig.
Will someone pay me to do that?

My uncle Jamseyboy walked into my room with an open mouthed smile. The kind of smile where his eyes were sort of squinted and you can just barely see his tongue in the back of his mouth.
´Ive got french fries, im cookin them right now´
So i followed him back to the kitchen where he had a huge pan filled with hot oil and was dropping each peeled piece of potato into the hot grease. He explained to me later that sometimes he leaves the peel on the potato but only if it is ¨nice and clean¨ but this time he explained he wanted to just go ¨first class¨ with the fries so he peeled them. He dipped the spoon into the grease and fished each french fry out . Then he turned to me and and said ¨and now for the good part, oh its just so tasty…¨ and he grabbed the little yellow, white and green eggs that the neighbors had dropped off earlier , cracked them and let them trickle down into the bubbling grease.
And in the third world country of Honduras, high up on top of a mountain where the trees stretch up so tall that they waver in the breeze, there is a house, down a dirt road, where horses graze and dogs pace, that sits behind the tall pink walls topped with razor wire, and in the kitchen, there is a little 89 year old man, who is standing in his USA front pocket patched denim overalls and his flannel shirt, frying up eggs and french fries.
muchogusto, gracias, hola. thats really all i can say.
It has been interesting trying to communicate. When i find myself saying speaking german rather than spanish is when i really know that i have absolutely no idea what the word for “tomorrow” is in spanish. Today at the schooo I had a really good time. Two 4th grade girls and I became best friends (Ingrid and Lucia) and they took me around and introduced me to all of their friends. I also met a lot of the teachers there at the school and they were super excited for me to help out. One teacher inparticular named Erika is who I will be helping out mostly during my sta. She is actually sort of blind and so I helped grade writing assignmentsed and helped kids with division. “Meees Ryann, Mees Ryann” is what they kids call me and I am hoping that soon I will just get to permanently have playground duty so i can play with them on recess. The little girls in school all want to know where I have come from and what it is like there. They are super cute and speak great english. Today I spoke with Belkis (the helper at Uncle Jamseyboy’s ) through google translator that was confusing and fun. we both ending up saying really awkward things that neither of us could understand. I walk to school back anf forth and the guards are getting to know me, so they let me in now without me having to explain myself in broken spanish. This evening Erika (the teacher i am helping)’ invited me to go to her parents house in downtown Tegucigalpa to spend the night and go to a meeting down there. I decided to wait a bit before going seeing as how I do not know my way around and I am super American looking (she is a native Honduran). She is sort of blind like I said, so I just didn’t feel super safe. Perhaps something else fun will come up soon. I have not changed my money into Limps yet either so I didn’t want to bring all of my money with me downtown and get it stolen . That is a quick update, i am going to try to put some pictures up on facebook.
and now for something about kitties
